Originally from Zimbabwe, Aunty Tracy moved to Zambia with her mother when she was ten years old and began working as a babysitter. She has been working for my family for eleven years and is responsible for feeding her grandchildren and sending them to school. Aunty Tracy is single and lives in a two room house in John Laing compound, which is an hour's walk from my house. Due to the lack of space, not all her grandchildren are able to live with her. Aunty Tracy never fails to present herself fashionably when “knocking off” to go back home. She is warm, dignified and is home to me.

When you don’t have things in your house it seems like you are too poor! When you don’t have a chair or table it’s like you are poor. It’s only clothes I have! In the drums and the suitcase, it is just clothes!
